We’re looking for a few good startups, and we’re scouring the entire world to find them. In a couple of weeks we are kicking off a DEMO Tour with events in New York City, Moscow, and London. On June 7, in partnership with Index Ventures, the premier early-stage venture capital firm in Europe, we’ll be meeting one-on-one with London startups.

If you are a London founder with a killer product that will be ready to launch in October, apply to pitch here. You will receive product and pitch feedback from a partner at Index, and the DEMO team.

Any startup can apply, but we will give preference to pre-launch products. A spot on the Tour automatically enters startups for consideration to DEMO Fall in Silicon Valley. The DEMO Tour is our way of engaging with the startup community in between DEMO events, but it is also one of the main ways we find our finalists for DEMO.

Some big themes we are focussing on this year include mobile, enterprise, health, hardware, commerce, and collaborative consumption. Come join us in London @Index Ventures on June 7, or apply to one of these other Tour dates in Moscow, NYC, Austin, San Francisco and more cities:

The thermometer is the most common medical device on the planet. It is also often the first detector of illness. But it is an isolated device that does not share its data with doctors or others nearby. Kinsa wants to change all that. Kinsa launched its first product at DEMO Mobile—a smart, networked thermometer which leverages the power, display, processing, and connectivity of mobile devices. Watch the demo above.

The Kinsa thermometer, which plugs into the headphone jack of your iPhone, works like a regular digital thermometer to take your temperature or your child’s. But it is also connected to the network, making it possible to seek advice from medical professionals, keep records of health issues, and compare symptoms in an anonymized way to “what’s going around” in the local area.

According to Kinsa’s CEO Inder Singh, the company’s overall mission is to create a real-time map of human health using medically accurate, real-time, geo-located data. With this map, individuals can avoid getting ill, physicians can better care for patients, and society will have a tool to detect and potentially stop the spread of illness. Kinsa was very well received at the conference and won one of just five DEMO God awards. It also launched an Indiegogo campaign at DEMO Mobile which so far has raised $42,000.

According to CNET:

The craft brewery industry has exploded in popularity, but the marketing side of the business is not developed, Puri said. Beer Hunt is about giving craft breweries — which don’t have the resources to buy splashy superbowl ads like commercial beer companies — a way to market to beer lovers.

While users can only use points for bragging rights at the moment, Beer Hunt plans to add deals for free beer and other rewards, like beer-related swag or brewery tours.

“That’s on the horizon,” according to Puri. He said the BeerHunt crew has already rewarded beta testers with private tastings, a result of a partnership with a brewery. Beer Hunt is also working on adding taste profiles for beers to provide some education for those who have less craft beer knowledge.

As Puri said at DEMO Mobile, “Who doesn’t love beer”.

Enjoy their new ad, and BeerHunt responsibly my friends.

“Inside DEMO Africa 2012″ offers a look at the activity behind the scenes at last year’s DEMO Africa 2012 Conference. All of the footage was shot on location at DEMO Africa in Nairobi, Kenya on October 24th and 25th, 2012.

The inaugural DEMO Africa event took place last October 24-26, 2012 in Nairobi, Kenya. It provided a platform for 40 of the most innovative technology products from companies across the African continent with the opportunity to launch before a global audience of investors, media, strategic buyers, C-level executives and other entrepreneurs. This was the first time ever that a DEMO event was hosted on the African soil. DEMO Africa will take place again this year, October 23-24, in Kenya.

As part of the DEMO Conference’s continued global expansion to serve innovation wherever it may live, DEMO in partnership with Digital October will host its first DEMO Conference in Moscow on June 3rd and 4th. In today’s competitive environment, it’s crucial that entrepreneurs and startups are given the best possible opportunity to get their products noticed. DEMO Europe in Moscow will enable new technologies to be seen by the right people at the right time on a global stage.

The DEMO format differs from other conferences in that it is not a startup battle but a showcase for entrepreneurs to present their technologies. Digital October selects the most promising startups and entrepreneurs in the region and helps them to produce and present a high-quality, professionally-prepared, six minute product demo in which they demonstrate how their product will change the world. In order to help them do this, Digital October provides personal presentation coaching, technical expertise, product rehearsal and PR training, enabling each company to reach its full potential. Certified DEMO coach Nathan Gold, who has been coaching companies for DEMO since 2000, will help companies prepare their DEMO launch presentations ahead of June’s event, with scripting, production and delivery of the timed, live demo. DEMO Europe will be something very special.

Hope you can join me and Erick Schonfeld on this journey.
