The Panacast DEMO: 200 Degrees Of Awesome

When you are sitting in a room, your field of vision is about 200 degrees as you turn your head from side-to-side. Yet one of the limitations of video conferencing is a much more limited field of vision. Remote participants see only what the camera sees. How many times have you been in a meeting with a bunch of people in a room, someone calls in on Skype video, and you have to constantly rotate the laptop depending on who in the room is speaking?

PanaCast by Altia Systems solves that problem. One of the DEMO God winners at DEMO Mobile, PanaCast is a circular $600 camera that sits on a stand and can replace video conferencing systems that cost thousands of dollars.

Chris Dixon And Tom Conrad On Solving Real Problems Vs. “Growth Hacking” Your Way To Success

What does it take to scale a startup in the mobile era? Last week at DEMO Mobile, Chris Dixon (who recently joined Andreessen Horowitz as a partner) and Pandora CTO Tom Conrad joined me onstage to talk about how 10 million users is the new 1 million users. This is especially true in mobile.

“The shift to mobile is so dramatic,” said Dixon, who estimates that 95% of the startups he looks at have a mobile component. He noted, however, that it is a lot harder for a small mobile startup to rise in the App Store rankings without “black hat marketing” and spending money to buy your way up the rankings. Conrad cautioned that you can’t “growth hack your way” to success. You have to solve a real problem for consumers first and “be absolutely the best at solving [the] problem”.
